Day 1 – London, Paris, Munich

Distance east – 384 km (total – 384 km)

I’m writing my first entry from the upper deck of a high speed train between Paris and Munich. Despite the ‘high speeds’ its a 5hr 40m journey. I’ve managed an hour or so kip, but the rest of the ride will be me and the delightful (presumably) French lady next to me (who even waved me goodbye when she got off 🥹).

Anyway the day finally arrived. I could find no further reasonable reasons to delay and we’ve set off. To all those who said a 6am Eurostar was too early, you were spot on but we made it.

So we’re off…

It’s been a busy day one, and indeed one that isn’t over yet. However, my quick stop in Paris was lovely. I had the nicest pain au chocolat ever – by far even. My god it was so good, perfect pastry, not too heavy on the chocolat. The less said about the tea the better.

Considering the stop was only 6hrs I think i managed a hefty amount of sight seeing – see snaps below.

I was initially struck by how little green there was, however further investigation revealed the likely cause as winter.

But Paris in a word, very parisian. (sometimes my own descriptive prowess amazes me)

A final note.

This blog will likely include a huge amount of me droning on about various places and hopefully regaling a shenanigan or two. But before too much of that, let me say, I have some of the best friends and family a man could wish for. I’ve been given a hero’s send off with contributions from so many. Thank you all so much for the messages, hugs, advice (both good and not so good) and of course the beer ‘travel’ money. Saying goodbye to you all has been far more emotional than I thought, and I’ll miss you an awful lot. Thank you all for making it so special.

Anyway as I’m now in Germany now I’m off to find a curry house and hit the hay.
